This course is suitable for candidates who would like to learn about the role of a Community Interpreter and explore the public and voluntary sectors and how they support community needs. The role of the interpreter is fully explored and discussed. This is a course for committed individuals who would like to start their career as Interpreters in the Community. It is suitable for candidates who have experience in interpreting for friends and relatives or other members of the community in public service settings in the UK and are interested in developing their skills and knowledge in order to find paid employment.

Participants have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work as a community interpreter including the role of the interpreter, professional conduct and codes of practice and knowledge of the sectors within which they will be working - Housing, Health, Education, Immigration, Benefits and Social Services. Diploma in Public service Interpreting Law (DPSI) - Nottingham

The diploma in public service interpreting (DPSI) is a nationally recognised award and provides evidence of the ability to interpret between providers and users of the public services such as law, health, or local government.

 

The programmes focus on the theory and practice of interpreting and at the same time prepares the student to work in the law sector.

 

Speakers from the appropriate sector play a prominent role in the course and visits are arranged to institutions within your chosen sector.

 

Student will closely work with the course tutor who is a qualified interpreter.

 

The skills acquired by the students during the course include consecutive and simultaneous, sight translations, written translations, note taking skills

 

In addition students will gain knowledge of ethical and professional practices related to the role of a Public Service Interpreter.

Diploma In Police Interpreting (DPI) - Nottingham

The Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) is a qualification for those who work, or would like to work, in one of these areas:

  • Local Government: housing, social work, education

  • Level: first degree-level qualification in terms of language skills required.
